Barbie was born November 30, 1935, in Toledo, Ohio to the late Clyde and Marian (Potter) Bryan. She attended DeVilbiss High School in Toledo and Siena Heights College in Adrian, Michigan where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Speech. She also graduated from Stautzenberger Business College in Toledo with a Stenographic degree and then taught at college for several years. In 1966 she began work at the Toledo Blade newspaper, starting as typist in the Want Ad Department and later began the editor a travel column.
She retired in 1972 and moved to North Port, Florida with her parents for 5 years and then settled in Port Charlotte. Barbie was active in the Charlettes, the ladies’ group of the Port Charlotte Elks Lodge. Her greatest joy was making people smile and laugh. Volunteering to help others was a joy and hobby for her. Her favorite spot was St. Thomas, US Virgin Island.
Barbie is survived by her friends who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marian Bryan who died in 1986 and her father, Clyde Bryan who died in 1999.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Roberson Funeral Home Chapel, 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33948 followed by a Funeral service at 2:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte where she will be laid to rest with her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Florida Elks Children Therapy Services, PO Box 49, Umatilla, Florida 32784-0049.
