Bernard I. Klein,, 91, of Port Charlotte FL died Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Harbour Health Center in Port Charlotte.
He was born October 5, 1922 in Bronx NY, and moved to Port Charlotte from Boca Raton FL in December 2012. Bernard was a retired CPA/MBA and was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army as a Radar Technical Specialist. Bernard was an avid family man and an award winning dancer. He was a long time supporter of numerous local and national charities, and was the executor of the multi-million dollar charitable estate of Viola Odenheimer, and at Mr. Klein’s discretion, several million dollars was distributed to numerous Charlotte County charities including the YMCA, Tidewell Hospice, United Way, Saint Vincent DePaul/Andes Clinic, Charlotte Symphony, Edison College, FGCU, Peace River Wildlife, Animal Welfare League, Care A Van, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club & several dozen more.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith, who was a first grade teacher. They were married for 63 years before she died in 2011.
He is survived by his two sons; Dr. David M. (Stephanie) Klein of Punt Gorda and Dr. Steven F. (Ann) Klein of Nesconset, NY. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Dr. Howard S. (Florence) Koppelman of Delray Beach, FL, two grandsons, Dr. Richard E. Klein of Salem, VA and Robert D. Klein, ESQ of San Diego, CA, grandaughter Torri Klein of Nesconset, NY, nieces Bonnie Koppelman, CPA and Andrea Koppelman, ESQ, and nephews, Dr. Brian (Trish) Koppelman of Patchogue, NY,and Dr. Alan (Jaynes) Schwimmer of New York, NY.
