Pastor Gayle was born July 7, 1928 in Jamaica, West Indies to Enos and Ancella Gayle. He moved to Punta Gorda 15 years ago from Brooklyn, New York. He served as Pastor of the Church of God of East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York for 25 years and Pastor Emeritus for years. Over his 50 years in ministry, Pastor Gayle held many offices and served faithfully on various committees in his denomination. For 25 years he served in the capacity of District Administrative Bishop of District 2 overseeing up to 17 churches. He was a member of the Executive Counsel in the New York State Church of God and the English Speaking Representative of the West Indians in New York and a member of the Board of Examination for Ministers for 23 years.
Pastor Gayle was also involved on the international level in the Church of God where he served for 4 years as a member of the World Mission Board of Cleveland, Tennessee where he was a member of the Committee for Black Affairs. He also served his community as a volunteer pastoral caregiver at St. Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn and was a member of his local community board.
Survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Emeline Gayle; a son, Paul Gayle of Miami, FL; a daughter, Marcia Anderson of Kingsland, GA; a brother, Aubrey Lewinson of Jamaica; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
