Charles F. Burch, 83, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away April 13, 2023, at ShorePoint Health in Port Charlotte, FL.
Charles was born August 25, 1939, in Newport News, VA to the late Charles and Ella Burch. He graduated from Warwick High School in 1957 and NASA Langley Apprentice School in 1962. He served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1965. He had a long career as a master machinist and was privileged to work on numerous projects including the Saturn and Apollo Programs for the United States Space Program. As owner and operator of York Tool & Instrument Company, he continued work for NASA and various local businesses and universities.
Charles loved to travel all over the U.S. and Caribbean and was an avid scuba diver who logged over 1,000 dives. He was a car enthusiast and loved to showcase his 1977 Cadillac Biarritz at numerous car shows. He was a craftsman, artist, and all-around jack of all trades.
Charles is survived by his loving family, wife Louise Harris Burch, daughters Susan (Michael) Fogleman and Karen (Richard JR.) Gibson, three grandchildren; Sydney Fogleman, Richard III “Trey” and Nicolette Gibson, all of Yorktown, VA; three stepchildren, the late Michael L. Smith, Stephan L. (Christa) Smith, and Beth (Dennis) Brookman and sister Anne (the late James) McCarthy of Naples, FL; four grandchildren Michael S. (Katrina) Smith in Guam; Taylor, Carter and Ashtyn Brookman of Fluvanna County, VA; and two great grandchildren David and Hunter Smith (Guam).
