Charles F. Burch, 83, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away April 13, 2023, at ShorePoint Health in Port Charlotte, FL.
Charles was born August 25, 1939, in Newport News, VA to the late Charles and Ella Burch. He graduated from Warwick High School in 1957 and NASA Langley Apprentice School in 1962. He served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1965. He had a long career as a master machinist and was privileged to work on numerous projects including the Saturn and Apollo Programs for the United States Space Program. As owner and operator of York Tool & Instrument Company, he continued work for NASA and various local businesses and universities.
Charles loved to travel all over the U.S. and Caribbean and was an avid scuba diver who logged over 1,000 dives. He was a car enthusiast and loved to showcase his 1977 Cadillac Biarritz at numerous car shows. He was a craftsman, artist, and all-around jack of all trades.
Charles is survived by his loving family, wife Louise Harris Burch, daughters Susan (Michael) Fogleman and Karen (Richard JR.) Gibson, three grandchildren; Sydney Fogleman, Richard III “Trey” and Nicolette Gibson, all of Yorktown, VA; three stepchildren, the late Michael L. Smith, Stephan L. (Christa) Smith, and Beth (Dennis) Brookman and sister Anne (the late James) McCarthy of Naples, FL; four grandchildren Michael S. (Katrina) Smith in Guam; Taylor, Carter and Ashtyn Brookman of Fluvanna County, VA; and two great grandchildren David and Hunter Smith (Guam).
Please join us in celebrating his life Saturday, May 20, 2023, between 2-5 pm at Hilton Garden Inn, located at 180 Regal Way in Newport News, VA 23602.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in Charles’ memory be made to Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) at https://www.vims.edu/giving/.

Charles (Bubba as we called him growing up) was a very close friend, my family lived in his grandmothers house behind his parents home. A whole lot of great memory’s in our old neighborhood. Charles carried me to get my drivers lic. In his car 1950 2 dr. Ford a beautiful car white and light green and he always loved cars. It saddens me on his passing but I know the gates of heaven will be open to him. See you on the other side my dear friend.

God bless Charlie, he was a very nice, good and talented person. I was fortunate to know Charlie while he was working at NASA, Langley. I was an apprentice behind Charlie and working in the Materials Processing and Development Section. I had the opportunity to have purchased the Panther boat that he built, which I still own and serves as a testimonial to Charlie's craftsman ship. May God bless and keep his Family close.
