It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my amazing father, Charles Vattes on May 6, 2025 at my home in Port Charlotte, Florida, with me by his side. My dad lived a great life filled with family, friends, many great memories and few regrets.
Dad was born on October 4, 1943 in Lewiston, Maine. He was the second child, of three kids, and only son to Constantine and Exzelia Vattes.
My dad proudly served in the U.S. Army for four years during the Vietnam era, stationed stateside, where he was trained as a lineman and honorably discharged. Among his many ventures, he owned a Stella D’oro franchise business and held numerous sales roles through his career years—always excelling with his natural charm and unwavering work ethic. In the last few years he began buying and selling golf carts. He earned a reputation for selling only the nicest carts, always adding a personal touch that made it stand out. My dad had a unique eye for detail and took pride in everything he did.
When my dad married my mom, Irene Dumond (Frances Beaulieu), he became a stepfather to my sister, Sandy, whom he embraced as his own. He later welcomed two more children—me, Christina, whom he proudly named, and my brother Ryan. Though Dad and my mom, eventually divorced, their connection remained strong. They shared a deep and enduring friendship, speaking daily even as they both faced their final days in hospice care—thousands of miles apart, yet never truly separated.
Dad is survived by me, his daughter Christina and Dennis’ three sons—Tyler, Logen, and Colin—his cherished grandchildren, who he loved with all his heart. He is also survived by his son Ryan of Nampa, Idaho; his two sisters, JoAnn (Stephen Turner) of Brunswick, Maine, and Connie (Joe Brogan) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was predeceased by his parents, Constantine and Exzelia, his daughter, Sandy and numerous loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
My dad will be remembered for his integrity, creativity, and the love he had for his family. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him.
Though my dad may be gone from our sight, he will never be forgotten. I am so blessed that he was my dad and that I was able to care for him, it was an honor. I love you dad, MORE!
