Alfred was born on May 3, 1934, in Pétion-Ville, Haiti, to Maurice Breton and Dieudonne Beaubrun. He grew up in a family of six children, being the fifth, and he always took pride in recalling that he attended primary school with the Brothers of Christian Institution in Pétion-Ville before continuing his education at Alexandre Pétion High School in Port-au-Prince. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he chose to work in construction, a field where he distinguished himself through his hard work. He valued a job well done and often emphasized the importance of striving for excellence, quoting, “Put your work on the anvil twenty times, polish it, and polish it again…” to pass on deep-rooted values to us. A careful steward of his resources, he disliked waste and managed his finances with prudence. Papy Boss built a solid home with his wife, Marie Denise, raising eight children—five daughters and three sons—while also ensuring the well-being of his extended family. Always attentive to the needs of his loved ones, he made sure they had shelter, food, and the opportunity to pursue an education. Uncle Alfred cared as much for his immediate family as for his nieces and nephews. His best friend, William, describes Frédo as an honest, serious, and trustworthy man, loyal in friendship and reliable in all things. Deeply devoted to his country, Alfred never imagined living elsewhere. In the 1970s, he had an opportunity to leave, but he turned it down, affirming he would never abandon his homeland. It was only in 2021, under difficult circumstances, that fate led him abroad, unable to return due to Haiti’s insecurity and his declining health. He then settled with his daughter Nadia, who, along with Berthy, who lovingly cared for him.
Alfred is survived by his beloved children: Daniella Dejean, her husband Daniel Dejean; Berthy Gedeon, her husband Yvon Gedeon; Henry Robert Breton, his wife Béatrice Breton; Nadia Rosen, her husband Harold Rosen, and Mirlaine Dorce, her husband Patrick Dorce; his adored grandchildren: Diane, Darryl, Ruby, Gaetan, Henry Taylor, Pamela, Olivier, Victoria, Sebastien, Corallie, Patrick, Giovanni, Chrisvladly; His great grandchildren : Jerymiah, Damian, Karter; His cousin Marie Marthe Dumornay Louissaint; Camille, Guy, Edy, Regina Breton; as well as many nieces and nephews; his best friend William Chouloute and her wife Micheline Chouloute; all the families: Musac, Favard, Ballartier, Dumornay, Devilmé, Mistal. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
