Connie Sue Blackwell, 65, of Punta Gorda, Florida, precious wife, and mother, on Saturday, August 5th, 2023, lost her 9-year battle with Multiple Myeloma passing away peacefully at home surrounded by her adoring family with her beloved husband Thomas and 2 children, Angela and Brian at her side. She was a true fighter and never stopped fighting, every day was a gift she spent with family and friends but is now carried on in our hearts.
Connie was born April 14, 1958, to Don and Esther Robertson in Kansas City, Mo. She was the middle child with two sisters, Kathy, and Sheri.
Connie met the love of her life, Thomas Blackwell, in high school and they married in 1975. They lived in the Kansas City area raising their two children Angela and Brian and later became a grandmother to 4 grandkids, Christopher, Amanda, Rylan, and Brody. Their children relocated to Florida, and in 2008 Tom and Connie followed, moving into their current home in Punta Gorda Isles calling it home for the past 15 years enjoying living in Florida and being able to spend time with the kids and their families.
She devoted her life to taking care of her husband and two kids, being a stay-at-home mom with a few jobs sprinkled in over the years but priority was her family. She put the home in homemade filling her home with warmth and kindness, put others before herself, knew what advice to give, and made all around her feel special. She had a sense of humor, was the life of the party, and encouraged us all to take time to have fun. She was also very close with her canine companions, Carly, a toy Aussie, and her big puppy, Sophie, a Great Pyrenees.
She enjoyed the beach, sunsets, hiking, camping, gardening, the Catholic Church, her favorite flower carnations, music, adventures, Disney, the zoo, a good book, travel, and taking care of others. Her travels took her to Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, the Virgin Islands, and the place that held a special place in her heart, the Cayman Islands, visiting the islands multiple times. Connie was a devout Catholic her entire life and attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda.
Connie is a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, dog mom, and friend. She will be missed and will walk along with us every day giving us the strength and support to point us in the direction we need to go.
Connie was predeceased by her father, Marion Donald Robertson, mother, Esther (Herbic) Robertson and sister Sheri Robertson.
She lives on through her beloved husband, Thomas Dean Blackwell of Punta Gorda, Fl., her children, Angela Marie Decker and her husband Vernon Decker of Inverness, Fl., Brian Thomas Blackwell and his wife Deanna Blackwell of Estero, Fl., four grandchildren, Christopher Decker and his wife Allison Decker, Amanda Decker, Rylan Blackwell, Brodie Blackwell, and step-grandson Cameron McNamara-Holmberg.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Connie’s memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 4950 W Kennedy Blvd #605, Tampa, Florida 33609.
