Conrad was born January 17, 1927, in Madawaska, Maine to the late Lucien Joseph and Emelie “Mamie” (Morneault) Rioux. He married his lifelong love, the former, Laura Mae Martin, on November 26, 1949, in Manchester, Connecticut.
Conrad was a graduate of Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts, and graduated from St. Louis University Dental School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1950. He served as a captain with the U.S. Army from July 1950 to April 1952. In Korea, with the Third Infantry Division, he won the Combat Medical Badge and the Bronze Star. He established his private dental practice first in Hartford, Connecticut in 1952, and then in Punta Gorda, Florida in 1971.
Conrad was a man of great personal integrity, who brought a “can-do“attitude to every phase of his life. He was a founding member of the Kingsway Country Club in Lake Suzy and an avid woodworker who built two homes and made all the furniture within. In retirement he provided dental care to the under-served on several Indian reservations in the west. He was opinionated, yet charismatic, with a fast smile, and quick joke.
Conrad was preceded in death by Laura, his loving wife of 73 years, his parents, his siblings, Yvette Willis and Florette Miller and his daughter, Marianne Jones, joining them in our Lord’s loving embrace in heaven.
Conrad is survived by his sibling Maxine Rioux-Dunnell; a daughter, Lori Mayers of Annapolis, Maryland; four sons, Robert M. Rioux of Arcadia, Florida, Thomas Rioux of Tucson, Arizona, James Rioux of Midland City, Alabama and Dr. John P. Rioux of Port Charlotte. He is known as Papa by 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren all of whom will miss his love and fun storytelling.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W. Charlotte Ave., Punta Gorda, Florida 33950.
