Darryl was born March 7, 1950 in Trenton, New Jersey to Marvin and Edith Van Arsdale. He grew up in Bordentown, NJ and graduated from Bordentown High School. He attended college before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1970. Darryl served in Italy during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he graduated from Stockton State College with a degree in Chemistry. Darryl attended Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, GA where he obtained his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 1981.
Darryl and his family moved to Port Charlotte, FL in 1981 and open the Van Arsdale Chiropractic Clinic. Darryl’s business served Charlotte County for nearly 30 years before he retired in July 2010 to Singer Island, FL with his wife Ellen.
Darryl is survived by his Wife, Ellen Van Arsdale; his mother, Edith Van Arsdale; and his children, Jeffrey Van Arsdale and Abigail Van Arsdale.
There will be a family and friends gathering at 5:00 PM and a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Port Charlotte Chapel.
Memorial Contributions may be made to: Harbor Heights- Peace River Rotary in Charlotte County.

To Ellen and family My parents and Darryl's family grew up together in Bordentown. I worked with his older brother in the early 70"s. Darryl was one of my friends while in high school we would go out and play basketball under the parking lot lights at Bordentown Regional until 12 or 1 am in the morning, I can remember during a high school football game he intercepted a pass and ran about 75 yards for a T.D. he was so tired we had to carry him to the bench. My wife was a year ahead of him and she became friends through his friends. In 1967 he was a member of the Little Devils drum and bugle corps. Later that year we won the Sons of the American Legion National Championship in Boston Mass. I just want to say how sorry i am for your loss reading the other memories lets us all know he made a difference in the world. May God bless him and keep in his grace.

He was not only a Doctor but a friend. When he retired I missed him so much. He was the only one that could "Fix" me. He was talented, crafty, considerate, compassionate and very charismatic. Darryl was one of the nicest guys in high school. It was very sad news for the Bordentown Regional High School class of 1968. Condolences to his family and everyone near and dear to Darryl.

A sad time for all... I saw Darryl at a class "recent" reunion but I can't remember if it was at 40 years or 30 years. Time goes by so fast these days. The BRHS class of 68 has grown a bit closer these days and the news of Darryl's passing has spread quickly. On behalf of everyone from our class, I wish to send our thoughts and prayers. Another chapter of our lives goes by again. Peace and fond memories. Larry

Dear Ellen & Family, Dr. Van Arsdale was a great person. He treated my mom, dad, husband, and I. He was the best chiropractor, there is no one who comes close to his treatments. He was a caring man. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He use to talk to me about Jeffrey and Abigail as I have a son close to their age. He was very proud of them. Ellen, I know you made a big difference to his life as well, he was very happy with you, he didn't tell me but I could tell he loved you very much. You are in my prayers.

We would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Van Arsdale family. We still cherish our fond memories of the Haverhill neighborhood and we hope that Jeff and Abby can also find comfort in their memories of their father. Doc as I called him was the BEST, I remember after Hurricane Charlie I had gone to PA for a visit; before I left I hurt my neck and had gone to 5 different chiropractors. I only did this because Doc was unreachable due to the hurricane damage. Well I kept calling his office everyday while on vacation and finally got through to him. I shared my dilema with him (that none of the 5 doctors I went to could fix my problem) he told me to come in as soon as I arrived back in town. Needless to say within 15 mins I was all fixed. He was the best at what he did but he was also a genuinely kind and caring person. He will be greatly missed. I extended my prayers to his loved ones for their tragic loss. God Bless you all.

Just a short note to say how very sorry I am to learn about Darryls' passing. Just know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

First of all I need to apologize that I was not aware of Doc's passing. I am so sorry for the family's loss. I knew Doc for at least 20 years. Played basketball with him on several occasions. Doc also treated me off and on through the years for those weekend warrior injuries I got from thinking I was a kid again. I could alwasy just call him or just walk into the office and he would fit me in. Doc was a great guy. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. He will be dearly missed. God bless Doc.

I have missed Dr. VanArsdale so much since he retired. Words cannot express how much he has done for me over the years. The compassion and respect he showed me was invaluable. I know there is a special place in heaven for him. May your family find comfort and peace.

Darryl was a wonderful man and a truly gifted Chiropractor. I met Darryl at the beginning of our professional life at Life Chiropractic College in the spring of 1978 we grew up together in Chiropractic and helped each other learn our craft...my life would not have been the same without Darryl's wonderful influence and friendship we shared...

I knew Darryl and Emily in Naples Italy where we were a part of a great group of friends sharing time and space as Navy families. We has many great times eating and playing and enjoying our friendships. Emily and I had some great adventures traveling by hook or by crook to meet up with our husbands wherever their ship took them and keeping the party going across the Mediterranean. So When we returned stateside we had the good fortune of living within a reasonable distance to each other in PA and NJ. Unfortunately when my former husband Courtney Abbott and I left the area to live in Hawaii and later in Oregon, we lost touch. Darryl was a great fun-loving guy. I am sorry to find him on the internet in this fashion.

Myself and My husband used to visit the office in Port Charlotte and Darryl was just a lovely man so caring and sweet. He helped me so much when I was ill and my husban. He had wonderful hands and it is very sad that he has passed. We wish his family all the best, you truely had a wonderful husband and father Regards The Williamsons, Rotonda FL

i was so sorry to hear about the loss of this wonderful man today when I called his old Pt Charlotte office. Darrrl always referred to me as his "one fix wonder" because I only needed adjustments once every 2 yrs. I knew Darryl for over 16 years. There are no words good enough to express how much he meant to those that were lucky enough to know or deal with him. He helped so many of my friends over the years that I lost count. I watched him come back after Charlie and was proud to know him. I am sorry to remind you of such a recent hurt but to not express it would dishonor his memory. God bless all you. ~Dr. Van Arsdale was an amazing man, who helped me over come a lot of pain during my younger years, I played a lot of sports and he was always there to straighten me out whenever I took a bad hit playing those sports. He also was a very energetic and happy man, it was saddening when I heard the news that he had passed. But God always has a plan for us and it was his time to go, maybe God needed an amazing chiropractor and a energetic man in his life. My thoughts and prayers go out to all family and friends in the hard time. My favorite remembrance of him was every time I came in he would do the finger check (put your pinking and thumb together and hold them as hard as you can why he pulled them apart, if you were fine you could do it, but if you were out of line, you couldn't. I NEVER could, and he always did his laugh after pulling mine apart, because I tried sooooo hard to hold them together. ~ Love always...Blake Bettis.

He was a cast member in the last play that I directed at the Regional HS: He was one of the nobles in "Once Upon A Mattress" and was always a good sport and easy to get along with. He will be missed. I have been a friend and patient of doc's for 20 years.... I loved him as a great doctor and more as a great man that he was. what a great loss! my deepest condolences to his family and friends.that smile and wonderful sense of humour will never be forgotten.. The first time I met Dr. Van Arsdale, I was very nervous, I was sent by another doctor. I am just finding out about this and is so sad. My condolensces go out to his family. I remember he had a smile on his face upon entering the room and so friendly and nice, I started to feel at ease. I didnt mind going to visits after that and that is not me. We'd talk alot and he told me all about his family and I told him about mine. I was from Philadelphia, and he was New Jersey so we shared stories about that. He helped me with my neck pain and I always felt good after my visit. I will miss him very much, I cannot believe he is gone, and now I have no one to see for my neck pain. May you rest in peace Darryl and I know God is taking care of you now! I wish I knew what happened to him!

Dr Van Arsdale was a wonderful caring doctor and I appreciated all his help over the years. I was so saddened when he left his practice here. I am grateful to have met him and wish his family peace with his passing. My family will keep them in our prayers. God Bless.....

We met Doc shortly after moving to Charlotte county in 1994. He showed by his words and actions the importance of service to the community. He was a wonderful doctor and an even better person. We will miss him.

We will miss you Dr. Darryl! You helped us overcome our pain and now we leave you in the hands of the Best Healer of All and know that your pain is gone.

My condolences to Darryl's family. Darryl was the best chiropractor I have ever been to. I have missed him since he retired. We played softball together and became close friends. Dr. Darryl was a friend and my doctor. There was never I time I couldn't call his office and get right in to see him. The second I would see him he would give me a hug and tell me he would fix me right up. Many times I would bring my son when he was a baby and he would make sure he was well entertained during my treatment. I have missed him so much since he retired. God truly got an angel when Darryl passed and his smile and great personality will be missed by all who knew him. Prayers to his family at this difficult time.

When I heard of Darrl's passing----I cried! I haven't had contact with Darryl since H. S. but the memories were molded in my life forever. Hard to believe that all those years ago we rode our bikes on the hilltop and played in the woods only to get covered with Poison Ivy! How we played on the same little league team, the B & L'ers--AKA the Bums and Loafers. Always a thoughtful person with that smile from ear to ear for everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. PS: I did not know until I heard of Darryl's passing, that he lived only a short distance from Cape Coral.

I first met Darryl when he joined the mens golf league at the Sunnybreeze Golf Course shortly after he moved to Port Charlotte. He was always a gentleman, whether he won his match or not. His firm hand-shake, big smile, and "nice match" afterwards, assured you just how much he enjoyed the competition as well as the comradery. Those were just a few of his traits that led us to become fast friends. Shortly after meeting Darryl I became a patient of his, largely because of his wonderful personality. You knew you were in good hands when you stepped through his door too. I was unaware that he retired last summer until I called for an appointment at his old phone number earlier this month. I recall having a sense of loss at the time, not having Darryl's magical touch to depend on anymore. My wife and I were so startled to learn of Darryl's passing last week. We are so saddened that the world has lost such a wonderful person; but so grateful that God let us borrow him for awhile. Our condolences to the entire Van Arsdale family.

I was very sorry to hear of Darryl's passing. He was an important and fun part of our high school years. And his mom, Edith, has been a wonderful friend for many years. My condolences to his family.
