Dolores (Dolly) Smith, 74, of Port Charlotte, FL returned safely to the arms of Jesus on Jan. 28, 2022. Born in Newburgh, NY, she is a 1965 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy who has lived in Charlotte County, FL for the past 18 years.
Music was her passion and in recent years she was the accompanist for the First United Methodist Church of Punta Gorda. Previously, she accompanied the North Port and Charlotte Chorales, directed the chorus at South Port Square, and has served as organist, choir director, vocalist, and accompanist over the years.
In 2014, she was privileged to go on a “Journey with Joe” to Italy with the renowned Christian composer, director, and performer Joseph M. Martin. She traveled with others from across the country, touring and singing in such places as the Pantheon and the Vatican.
The daughter of Frederick J. Kurz and Florence M. Vradenburgh Kurz who predecease her, Dolly is survived by two sons, David J. Smith (Roxann) of CT and Daniel P. Smith (Bonnie) of PA, and three grandsons, Brett M. Azeredo, Nicholas S. Smith, and Jack D. Smith. She is also survived by two sisters, Joyce E. Baxter (Albert) and Jean M. Vingoe (Roy), a brother, David F. Kurz (Sharon), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service was held at the First United Methodist Church of Punta Gorda, 507 E. Marion Ave. Punta Gorda on Feb. 02, 2022, 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
