Born May 6, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Mary (nee – Clinton) and George Sievers, Dorothy, a devoted mother and wife, moved with her husband Frederick C. Grant from Haverstraw, New York to Port Charlotte in 1982. She was former Trustee, Financial Secretary and President of the Cosgriff Hose No.4 Fire Company in Haverstraw, former member and Treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tenafly, New Jersey, and member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte and American Legion Post 110 Auxiliary, also in Port Charlotte.
She is survived by her beloved sons, Dennis Melchior of West Palm Beach, FL and Stephen Melchior of New York, NY; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Melchior in 1992, and her husband of 47 years, Frederick Charles Grant in 2006.
A Memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, March 19, 2012 at Roberson Funeral Homes, Port Charlotte Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
Memorial bequests in Dorothy’s memory are suggested to the Dorothy V. Grant Foundation, 701 South Olive Street Apt. 1616, West Palm Beach, Florida 33401.
Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Homes & Crematory Port Charlotte Chapel.
