DOROTHY LOUISE JONES, 79, of Port Charlotte, Florida received her heavenly wings on December 15, 2019 after a courageous battle with renal failure and cancer. Dorothy was born in Yuma, Arizona on March 23, 1940 to Elder Luther & Rebecca Lee. Raised in a Christian home (with seven siblings), Dorothy gave her life to the Lord, at a young age and lived a life serving people with a genuine friendliness.

Dorothy graduated from Yuma Union High School. In 1958, sixty-one years ago, she married Roscoe Jones and to this union three children were born: Sheila, Anthony and Kimberly. The family resided in Philadelphia, PA for 35 years. She graduated from Community College of Philadelphia in 1976, and was a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse, who always strived for excellence. In 1994, she relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida becoming a proud member of First Baptist. She attended church and Sunday school faithfully and relished in singing in the choir and serving selflessly in many ministries. In 1997, Dorothy joined the Charlotte County School District, as a Substitute Teacher, where she primarily cared for children with special needs. She retired in 2017. Locally, she also volunteered with the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition.

For life balance, Dot loved arts and crafts, gardening and traveling. Her most gratifying travel experience was visiting the Holy Land in Israel. Throughout all of Dorothy’s life accomplishments; her greatest challenges, commitments and rewards came from showering her family with unconditional love. Dorothy leaves fond memories to her husband, 3 children, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many others. Dorothy will be sorely missed by all!

A Homegoing Celebration is scheduled for Monday 10:00 am December 23, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, 20035 Quesada Ave. Port Charlotte, Florida 33952. Visitation at the church will begin at 9:00 am Monday. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm Monday at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida.

Flowers may be offered to the First Baptist church and online memorial donations may be made to the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition www.cchomelesscoalition.org. The Multicultural Nursing Organization would like to extend our sympathy to the Jones family. Dorothy have been a very supportive member of our Nurses group and was instrumental in helping to plan fun raisers for the group. Dorothy's huge smile and friendship will be greatly miss by all the members.

Multicultural Nursing Organization would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the Jones family in the death of their wife and mother. Dorothy has been a devoted and vey supportive of our group. She never missed any event we were involved with and she was instrumental in the planning and implementation of our projects. She was very talented in making items to decorate the venue for our parties. We have become like family in our group and we are going to miss her friendship and her beautiful smile.

Dorothy was a faithful member of our Ushers Ministry until her move to Florida. Dorothy loved to entertain the members in her home and she was a very good cook. Whenever she visited Philadelphia she came to our church and contacted many members to let them know she was in town. We will miss her beautiful Hats and beautiful smile. Dear Kim and family, My heart is sadden to hear of your loss. Your mother was truly an AMAZING woman. As a child coming to your house almost daily after school, she ALWAYS made me feel welcomed AND special. I remember being hugged tightly and feeling loved! WHAT a legacy! When I became a mother and my children had their friends visit, I modeled my behavior after her. My house became that " Kool-Aid" house too. Thanks Mom Jones for being such a Godly example for me!
