Douglas Eric Meyer, 69, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed died May 20, 2023, at home.
Douglas was born to the late Mary Ann and Gerald Eric Meyer in Rensselaer, Indiana on May 15, 1954. Doug graduated from Adrian College in Michigan in 1976 and pursued a career in the Agricultural market with Chief Industries in Indiana for about 2 years. Then Douglas took a position with GSI in Assumption, Illinois and was responsible for scheduling plant production & procurement of steel for the company.
Doug enjoyed golfing as a past time and was a member of the GSI golf team for several years. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was Doug’s other passion. He was a member of the “Committee to Save lakeshore Golf Course” and served on the Taylorville Park Board of Directors. The last ten years of his life Doug wintered in Florida and enjoyed life !
Douglas is survived by his wife Tracy Lynn Meyer, two sons’; Rodney Meyer(Carrie Welburn) of Assumption, IL, Brett Meyer(Carlee Hawkins) of Edwardsville, IL, Daughter, Gayla Dorsey(Brent) of Moweaqua, IL ; Grandchildren, Sydney Meyer, Anita and August Meyer, Chase Tolly and Brogan Tolly; Great grandchild Sophia Meyer; Stepchildren, Jason(Heather) Smith, Brooke Wingler and Dennis(Kelly) Crowder, all of Taylorville, Illinois, two sisters; Jean Witherington of Rensselaer, IN and Linda Jo Williams of Lafayette, IN, Step grandchildren; Tyler Smith, Macey Smith, Elle Smith, Allie Smith, Maddie Smith, Preston Page, Myleigh Aten, Brody Durbin, Brayden Durbin, Carter Crowder and Kinsley Crowder, Nephews; Travis Witherington, Chad Witherington, Zach Williams and Jourdan Williams. Doug was preceded in death by his first wife Julia Meyer.
Celebration of Life services will be held July 8th, 2023, at Lakeshore Golf Course in Taylorville, Illinois. Services in Florida will be at a later to be announced.
