Dr. Frederick “Fred” P. Swing, Jr., 88, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Monday, December 11, 2023.
He was born December 17, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Frederick P. and Marguerite(Wood) Swing. Dr. Swing graduated from the University of Miami Medical School in 1965 and began as an anesthesiologist in Naples in 1965. He moved to Port Charlotte in 1971 and was the Director of Anesthesiology at St. Joseph’s Hospital, now known as ShorePoint Health-Port Charlotte, for over 30 years. In the early 1990s he began medical acupuncture practice and continued practicing until 2022.
He was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He had a gentle heart and genuinely loved to help others. He often treated patients at no charge and took great joy in improving their lives. Fred enjoyed acupuncture, swimming, gardening, fishing, and his family, which was his main priority.
Survived by his loving family, three daughters, Bridget (Tony) Mast, Maggi (Dave) Beamish, and Katie (Allison Bell) Swing; a son, Joe Swing; and his loyal friend and caretaker for many years, Carla Gaddy; 7 grandchildren, Maggi McElroy, Abby Steighner, Julie Stagner, Jacob Mast, Palmer Swing, Thomas Beamish and Zoe Beamish; He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne E Swing and a brother, James Swing.
Visitation will be held Thursday 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Dec. 14, 2023, at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 2:00 PM, Dec. 15, 2023, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 21505 Augusta Ave, Port Charlotte, FL 33952. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
