Edmund Patrick Childs, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Port Charlotte, Florida surrounded by loved ones on June 25, 2024.
Ed was born on March 16, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York where he spent most of his childhood. IN 1970 he enrolled at Mercyhurst College, where he met a brown-eyed girl named Marian and quickly knew they would be together for life. Ed and Marian shared 50 years of marriage, celebrating countless moments of joy while raising their five children, remaining steadfast in their love for each other.
Everything that Ed did was in service of his family. He built the couple’s first home by hand in Washington, Connecticut and launched a successful IT business, but his biggest impact was felt through the love and support he gave his children, helping them navigate life’s ups and downs while modeling integrity and compassion.
Ed loved music, skiing and spending time at the beach. Above all he was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved-planning family concerts, ping pong tournaments and impromptu games of catch.
While living with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia, he found joy and peace during long visits to Colorado, watching his grandchildren grow and nights spent at the dinner table with his wife.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Marian; his children, Christian (Jillian), Elizabeth, Rebecca (Brian) Burgess, Patrick (Liz), Hannah and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, July 20, 2024 at St. Francis Xavior Church in Hunt Valley, Maryland followed by a celebration of life at 10938 Falls Road in Timonium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
