Born on April 19, 1935, in Ellwood City, PA, Edna was the daughter of Russell and Jesse Duncan. She met and married the love of her life, Robert Shelenberger, on July 19, 1957. They were married for 66 years before his death in October 2023, and are now reunited in heaven. Over the years, they lived in five different states together, and she made each one a home.
She is survived by her daughters, Jodi (Dave) Sharkey and Tami (Brian) Green, four grandchildren, Melissa (Chris) Hastings, Jeff (Mary) Polding, Amy (Jake) Lokkesmoe and Erika (Cameron) Matteson, and three great-grandchildren, Elena and Nicholas Polding and Lucy Lokkesmoe. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob and her siblings, Irene Mason, Bill Duncan, Virginia Hall, Hazel Eckhart, Doris Llewellyn and Nellie Ewing. She was a wonderful wife, mom and grandma, and a caring friend to all who knew her.
It was Edna’s great joy to be able to stay at home and raise her two daughters as her primary responsibility. She also loved volunteering, most recently for over fifteen years at Fawcett Memorial Hospital’s gift shop. She loved her family and was always interested in hearing what was going on in their lives. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas when her family would gather and sing Christmas carols together.
Edna also enjoyed baking, shopping, creating crafts, and hosting family gatherings. Her family will always remember her kindheartedness toward others, her witty quips, and the many ways she made her home a welcoming and joyful place to be. Most importantly, though, her legacy of faith in God and selfless care for others serves as an example to all of us.
