Erma Elizabeth was born January 4, 1921 in Auglaize County, OH to the late William A. and Emma C. (Metz) Roode. She graduated from Botkins High School in 1939 and Malone College in 1970. Erma taught from 1962 through 1981 at Saint Louis Catholic, Malvern and Waco Elementary schools in Ohio before retiring to Florida in 1981 with husband, John Davis. She was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and Port Charlotte United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for the women’s circle. Erma was a member of Eastern Star and White Shrine, and an avid card player.
She is survived by her loving family, a daughter, Susan Gidley Umbras of Port Charlotte, FL, son, John M. (Linda) Gidley of Greensboro, NC, Step children, Kathy (Don) Sanor and Ray (Pat) Davis of Minerva, OH; Paul Davis (Kitty Lou) of Murray Hill, NJ, John Davis of VA, Robert(Kathy) Davis of Englewood, FL; Step son-in-law, Dick Dysle of Alliance, OH; 23 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 31 great, great grandchildren. Erma is also survived by younger sisters; Mildred Lunz, Betty Dober, Mary Kreglow and Doris (Maurice) Naseman. She was preceded in death by husbands: John T. Gidley (1971) and John F. Davis (2006), step daughters Twila Mae Dysle , Doris Durst and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 at Roberson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
