Esmelda Williams, 92, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully, Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Tidewell Hospice in Englewood, Florida.

Esmelda was born November 12, 1925 in Falmouth, Jamaica West Indies to the late William Lewis and Mahalia Thompson. She was a nurse in London, England and in New Jersey before retiring to Florida in 1990 with her beloved husband, Alvin Williams. After 60 years of marriage, Alvin passed away in August 2017. They were members of Port Charlotte United Methodist Church.

Esmelda is survived by her loving family: three daughters, Beverly Shimaka of Laurel, MD; Sonia Williams of East Orange, NJ; Brenda Williams of Brooklyn, NY; a son, Hubert Williams of Port Charlotte; and three grandchildren, Mukosi Shimaka, Lela Shimaka and Cameron Gipson. She also leaves behind a wonderful circle of extended family and supportive friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM with funeral services at 10:00 AM at the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, 21075 Quesada Avenue, Port Charlotte, FL 33952. Dr. David DeSilva will officiate. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte. After the interment family and friends are invited back to the church for a luncheon.
