Evelyn Adina White, 96, of Port Charlotte Florida, went home to be with the Lord, peacefully on the afternoon of July 19th. at 4:20.
She was born in St. Elizabeth Jamaica, West Indies, on July 9th. 1927. to father Hezekiah Brown, and mother Sarai Vassal. From very early in her life, Mother wanted to be a nurse. She paid her way through nursing school, and after completion, worked at TB Sanatorium, in Kingston Jamaica. Evelyn formed a strong network of friends while in school, and worked as a nurse for 17 years in Jamaica. Evelyn met and married Basil White, 1956. She seized the opportunity in 1963 to work in the United States, (in the City of Chicago), for a 7 month period; She later moved to the Bronx, in New York. There, she paved the way for her family to live in the United States, and worked for over 10 years at the Bronx VA hospital. Evelyn responded to God’s calling on her life and, adjoined herself to Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene, where she and her girls grew spiritually.
In 1983, Basil and Evelyn moved to Port Charlotte FL. Evelyn continued in nursing, and worked at G. Pierce Woods Hospital in Arcadia Fl. She became affiliated with Unity Church of Peace and made many close friends while attending and serving there. She retired in 1992, and became a grandmother that same year. Evelyn was a sweet friend to many, a good mother, an industrious worker; she loved to sew, cook, garden and dance. Evelyn is missed, and is at peace with our Lord.
She leaves behind her daughters Paulette Peddie, (Winston), and Judith Blackwood, (Rick), grandchildren Nathan and Nia and great granddaughter Liliana.
A Celebration of life service will be held at Roberson Funeral Home in Port Charlotte FL, on Monday, August 14th, 2023. Viewing will be at 10:00, service at 11:00, with committal and entombment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery in Port Charlotte, FL.
