Evelyn V. Hallenbeck, 84, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010
at her residence.

She was born January 11, 1926 in Richmond, Virginia and spent her childhood in
Gloversville, NY and was a graduate of Gloversville High School. She moved to Port Charlotte in 1982 from Ardsley, New York. Evelyn was a graduate of the Crane School of Music, State
University of New York, Potsdam, NY and a retired music teacher. Member of the Music Educators National Conference, New York State School Music Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. Evelyn was a recipient of the Master Teacher Award from State University of New York. She was a active member and pianist of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church and a member of the Friends of Music in Port Charlotte where she served on the Board of Directors and was the Scholarship Chairperson for many years.

She is survived by a sister, Elva Kovaric of Green Valley, NY; and a brother Leo G. Hallenbeck, Jr. of Gloversville, NY; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sept. 8, 2010 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:00 AM, Sept. 9, 2010 at the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. Rev. Brian James will officiate. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.

I have such fond memories of singing in Ms. Hallenbeck’s chorus at the Concord Rd elementary school in Ardsley, NY. She was strict, but for that reason, we were quite good! I’m sure many, many, many of her students hold a special place in their hearts for her - as I do. My condolences to her family.

Miss Hallenback was my music teacher at the Concord Road Elementary School. Although I was not musical, she asked me to be her Music Helper. She was a very dedicated teacher and at times strict (especially about grammar). I have very fond memories of the times I spent with Miss Hallenback.

Ms. Hallenbeck was my music teacher for all the years I was at Concord Rd. Elementary School and taught me the love of singing that has stayed with me all my life. I think of her so very often, and tell my own students about her. I hope I can influence one student as she did me.

Miss Hallenbeck was my music/chorus teacher at the Concord Road School in Ardsley in the early 1960's and I adored her. I have remembered her all these years as an inspiration and a stern, but kind and inspiring mentor. She was the first choral teacher I had and started me on a lifetime of loving choral performance. I know she knew then, when I was her student, how much I cared for her because I remember bringing her gifts, including a nosegay I made for her, but I am sorry that I did not find her years later and let her know how much she meant to me and that she stood out for me as one of my outstanding teachers.

A dear friend to me and my husband for 27 years we've lived here and a great help since I lost him 2 years ago.
