Felix Hernando Pascual, 85, of Punta Gorda, Florida, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at his Punta Gorda residence.
Felix Hernando Pascual was born on December 16, 1924 in the Philippine Islands. He grew up in Tarlac, a Filipino province on the island of Luzon. When the Japanese occupied his town he and his family evacuated to the mountains. Later he married and began a family of four children: Margie, Edwin, Jimmy and Helen.
Felix was one of the first students at Philippine Union College where he studied for two years in theology, before moving on to a local college in Manila where he received a bachelors degree in education. He graduated from medical school at Manila Central University.
He arrived in the United States on June 11, 1955. He began working that month at Fairview Park Hospital in Cleveland. His first assignment was the Emergency Room, where he met and began dating a beautiful registered nurse, Rosina Schmahl. Less than three years later they were married, on April 26, 1958.
He began his medical residency at Elyria Memorial Hospital, in Ohio, where Laura was born, followed by Holly, then Melinda. In May of 1963 Felix opened his family medical practice. During the years he had a private practice, he also became the company physician for General Motors.
When he wasn’t working as a physician, he was usually mowing or plowing snow or tending to their large vegetable garden. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family whether it was on family vacations or just sitting around the dinner table talking and laughing.
In 1990 he closed his private practice to begin working as a physician at the state prison. He retired as a medical doctor in August 1998.
In May 2000, Felix and Rosina moved to Pt. Charlotte, Florida to enjoy warmer weather and their granddaughters. He continued to enjoy working in the yard, golfing and fishing for several years.
Dr. Pascual fiercely loved his family and nothing was ever more important to him, but his Lord. On March 2, 2010 he fell asleep in Jesus while surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rosina, and his children Margie Krause, Edwin Pascual, Jimmy Pascual, Helen Reynolds, Laura Dancek, Holly Pascual, and Melinda Monos, and eleven grandchildren.
