Fred was born October 1, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio to Eugene and Lilly (Mohn) Nadelin and moved to Port Charlotte 14 years ago from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Fred graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1955. As a Doctor of Optometry, he established the Eye Clinic in Kalamazoo where he practiced for 35 years, retiring in 1990. He was also Chairman of the State Hospital Eye Care Facility in Kalamazoo for 20 years. Following his retirement, Fred and his wife Mary traveled for 10 years in their motor home and settled in Port Charlotte, Florida. They enjoyed spending time with their family, playing golf, bridge, and square dancing. He was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, and he and Mary sang in the church choir and local chorus groups. With an outgoing spirit, Fred enjoyed helping friends and neighbors with projects, and always knew how things should get done.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Nadelin; 3 daughters, Pam Nadelin of Lawton, MI, Linda Nadelin of Avon, IN and Nancy Tinklenberg of Kalamazoo, MI; 1 son, John Nadelin of Indianapolis, IN; 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his children, 2 daughters and 1 son, and 2 brothers.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00AM, Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. Inurnment will follow at St. Maximilian Kolbe Memorial Garden in Port Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Visually Impaired Persons of Charlotte County, 3459 Depew Ave. Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
Friends may visit www.robersonfh.com to sign the memory book and extend condolences to the family. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Port Charlotte Chapel.

Rest in peace Fred, we will truly miss you. Your "grumpy" wit was hilarious and would have won an Emmy. When you and Joyce would "discuss" cooking styles, the waitress would serve your eggs a bit too runny or that putter wouldn't perform, well, those comical scenes were side splitters . But we all know how much you cared for others and would do anything to help 24 hours a day. You would pick us up or drop us off no matter what hour our flight was scheduled. If our glasses were not fitting right, you would twist and turn them until they looked like new. It's going to be alot quieter now, and not as much fun. Joe and Kim Hunt

What a shock to hear of Fred's passing ! Pam was in about 3 weeks ago with the news that he had become very ill. Then when you called last week, it was not very clear he was so very sick.
I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great guy who left an indelible memory with those he treated at the Eye Clinic. It still happens daily that someone comes in and asks about the both of you. " How are they doing and where did they go ?" He will be truly remembered by all who knew him. I know I will always remember those days we practiced together at the clinic. He was a great mentor in my early days of practice. I will surely miss him that he is now gone.

What fun we have had over the years sharing family fun whether it be CFM gatherings on the park, sleep overs as kids, graduations, golfing, singing in church, playing cards or sharing a meal with the group after church. Thank you for letting your "Kalamazoo family" know of Fred's death. His picture was worth the proverbial "thousand words." Fred always greeted us with that same smile whenever I, Joel or our children came for his gentle attention at the Eye Clinic. He was our friend and optometrist for many years.
Please accept my sympathy on his passing to a new world and prayer for your continued life without his physical presence. He was a very good man who left a wonderful family, many friends and as Marcel Proust wrote, "A charming gardener who made many souls blossom." I am grateful for Fred's presence in my life.
