George Clifford Werner, 79, of Howey In the Hills, Florida passed away peacefully on October 22, 2023, in Tavares, Florida.
George was born June 15, 1944, in Bradenton, Florida. He leaves behind a legacy of love and a life well-lived. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, demonstrating his dedication to honor and service. Later in life, he ventured into the world of business as the dealer of the family owned business, Marlow-Werner Pontiac/Buick/GMC in Punta Gorda, leaving his mark in the professional realm.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, George was an active member of Punta Gorda Lodge 115 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Punta Gorda, Florida, where he fostered strong bonds of friendship and fraternity.
George was the beloved husband of Sharon Werner, and together, they shared a life filled with love and companionship for 53 years. He was a devoted father to Kimberli Werner-Standafer (Richard) and Kerri Werner-Koenig (David). His family grew with the addition of grandchildren: Jourdain Standafer (Brittany), Hillary Beatty (Matt), Megan Nell (Alex), Madison Koenig, and Nicholas Koenig. George’s favorite title was “Grandpa” to his five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Cooper Standafer, Trever Nell, Jaxson Beatty, Peyton Standafer, Juliana Beatty, and Tucker Nell, who brought him immense joy.
George Clifford Werner will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to be a source of inspiration and love for all those who were touched by his life.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with Funeral services to follow at 11:00 AM at Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel, located at 215 Mary Street, Punta Gorda, Florida.
After the funeral service, interment and military honors by a U.S. Navy Honor Guard will be held at 2:00 PM at Miakka Cemetery, 1630 Myakka Road, Sarasota, Florida 34240. It is an occasion to honor George’s service to his country and his memory.
