George E. Lindo, 83, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away on August 9, 2026.
Born in Mile Gully, Jamaica, George was hardworking, resourceful, independent, and driven. From an early age, he possessed a natural ability to understand how things worked and a gift for working with his hands. That talent would ultimately lead him to a career as an automotive mechanic and later, to entrepreneurship.
George spent his teenage and young adult years in Franklyn Town, Jamaica, where he learned his trade as an automotive apprentice and where he met his future wife, Joy.
In 1969, he migrated to the United States, settling in Bronx, New York. Joy arrived in 1970, and they started their married life together. George worked as an Automotive Fleet Supervisor for UPS before embarking on a position managing the maintenance of inner-city school buses.
Seeking greater opportunities for himself and his family, George moved to Port Charlotte, Florida, where he went on to open and operate a Meineke Muffler shop. George truly enjoyed fixing things and solving problems, and there seemed to be very little he couldn’t figure out once he put his mind and hands to it.
Beyond his work, George was strong in his faith and dedicated to his family. He accepted Christ at an early age and lived his life as a strong role model for his children. George enjoyed traveling and connecting with people. Friendships were important to him, and throughout his life he maintained relationships that stretched across communities, states, countries, and generations.
George leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 56 years, Joy; his mother, Thelma Campbell, age 102; his children, Duhane, Tricia, and Alicia (Marius); and his grandchildren, each of whom held a special place within the family he so proudly built. Those who loved George will carry his memory forward, remembering a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.
