George Robert Mueller, 80, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away Monday, July 27, 2020 in Punta Gorda. He was born May 3, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Punta Gorda in 2007 from Fredericksburg, Virginia.
At 18 George joined the United States Navy. He served in the Vietnam War and retired after 20 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Most recently a member of Post #378. He was also a member of the Elks for 23 years. His most recent association with the Elks was Deep Creek Elks Lodge #2763.
George had a deep love for the Charlotte County Youth Sports Organizations. He volunteered his time for many years with the Charlotte Warriors and cheered the organization on as his hometown youth football team. As time went on, he was there to support and cheer on the athletes in the Charlotte Swish basketball program and eventually saw them entertain their skills at Charlotte High School. He enjoyed watching his grandson play both football and basketball there. He loved and gave advice to all the young men and women in the organizations he was affiliated with.
Survived by his loving family, daughter Janelle (Ray) Scribner of Punta Gorda, FL and son Keith (Toni) Mueller of Cape Coral, FL.; two brothers, Charles (Ellen) Mueller of Cincinnati, OH and Donald Mueller of Alamogordo, NM; Five grandchildren, Melissa (Nathan) Williamson, Shelby Reimard, Amber (Philip) Rock, Kenny Scribner and Bella Mueller and three great grandchildren, Aiden Rock, Briella Reimard and Hayleigh Williamson. Predeceased by his parents and older sister.
The family would like to thank Dr. Vance Wright-Browne and the nurses at Florida Cancer Specialist and his primary care physician Dr. Jean Murphy for taking care of his medical needs and being so caring.
A Celebration of George’s life and interment will be held Wednesday 11:00 AM August 5, 2020 at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida with military honors by a U.S. Navy Honor Guard. In compliance with suggested guidelines to help prevent the further spread of Covid 19 and protect our most vulnerable and at-risk individuals, we ask anyone in attendance to please be respectful of others and observe social distancing and wear a personal protective mask.
