Dad was born in Webster, Pennsylvania, on June 7, 1934. He was a 1952 graduate of Rostraver High School, where he was known as a quiet student. He served in the United States Army, and married his Sweetheart, our mom, in 1959. He continued to serve in the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1963. To support his growing family, he worked in the steel mills of Pennsylvania and Indiana before moving on to a career with GTE that spanned more than thirty years.
He and our mom were seasonal residents of Gulfport, Florida for many years before eventually moving to North Port, Florida, where they built their dream home and became members of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. Dad was a proud member of Knights of Columbus Council 11483 and a 4th Degree member of St. Jude Assembly 1750.
Our dad was a loyal and dedicated family man. He routinely sacrificed his own immediate comfort in order to be able to provide for us. He drove us all over the country on camping vacations so that we could experience all this nation had to offer. He was warm, quiet, and thoughtful, a voracious reader, and an avid crossword puzzler. He enjoyed working in his garage and tinkering with various projects. He loved his kids, and he absolutely adored our mom. He will be missed every day.
Dad was preceded in death by our mom, MaryAnn, his parents, George and Anita Evans, and siblings Elaine, Clyde, Claude, and David. He leaves behind his children, George (Nancy), Christopher (Tammy), Michael, and Steven, siblings Louise (James) and James (Carol), and his grandchildren, Morgan, Emily, Jacob, and Mitchell.
A viewing will take place at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel on Monday, December 11, from 2-4pm. A memorial mass will be held at St. Maximillian Kolbe Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 12 at 11:00am.
Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Port Charlotte Chapel.
