He was born August 14, 1931 in Metcalfe County, Kentucky and moved to Charlotte County in 1960. George was a Baptist and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. George was retired from the construction business. He was a NASCAR fan who loved fishing and country music.
Survived by his loving family, a daughter, Hattie Davis of Live Oak, FL; four sons, George H. Smith, Jr. of Punta Gorda, Roger E. (Tracy) Smith of Port Charlotte, FL, Douglas R. Smith of Punta Gorda and Luther W. Smith of Port Charlotte; five sisters, Linda White, Margaret Louise Smith, Pearl Katherine Eichter, Carolyn Sue Frint all of Bowling Green, KY and Jeanette England of Indianapolis, IN; a brother, Stanley Smith of Bowling Green, KY; 22 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. He was preceded death by his loving wife, Ina Faye Smith in 2005.
Visitation will be held Thursday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, August 7, 2014 at Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 AM, August 8, 2014 at Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel. Rev. Frank Vargo will officiate. Interment with military honors by a U.S. Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post 110 of Port Charlotte will follow at Indian Spring Cemetery, Punta Gorda.
Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel.

I am thankful for the amount of time I had the honor of getting to know George. It was short but very special to have him home with us for his last days. He was right where he should be- with family and friends at his bedside. Thank you to such an amazing family for helping and being there.

RIP George Henry Smith an amazing father in law. You taught me how to play Rook and then Mom and I taught you and Roger a thing or two. I will always mix pinto beans with great northern beans the way you taught me. I love them with hoe cakes....but never before a cold beer or two. I know you and Mama are dancing, be careful when you do the splits, it's been a while. When you see Hank Williams tell him Hello. Your probably petting queenie and she keeps nodding your hand so you won't quit.. I bet you've already bowled a 300 game and caught a huge fish. Your memory will always stay close to our hearts,I love you always and forever, your favorite daughter in law, Tracy. .

I'm sure they are taking request for Karaoke and you are singing a Hank Williams song and Mom is singing blue moon of Kentucky.. By now you are talking to Dale Earnhart Sr.as you look down on your kids. Tracy cut the weeds today with scissors for no particular reason and I immediately thought of you....and you know Smitty everything reminds me of you. I know the hoe cakes cannot be better there because you have taught Doug that secret recipe and how to use the right amount of Crisco. Your memory will stay close to our hearts and I promise to keep making you proud.
