GERARD R. TURCOTTE, 87, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Tuesday, July 6, 2010
at Village Place, Port Charlotte.
He was born May 29, 1923 in Putnam, Connecticut and lived in
Wethersfield, Connecticut until 1985 before retiring to Cape Hatteras, North
Carolina. He moved to Port Charlotte in 1994. Jerry was a retired superintendent
in commercial electrical business and a 50 year member of the International Brotherhood
of Electrical Workers. He completed his education at Putnam Technical School and
the University of Connecticut.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and received a Presidential Citation
For extraordinary heroism against enemy submarines while serving on the U.S.S. Bouge
aircraft carrier in the North Atlantic. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling across the
country in his Airstream trailer; was an avid fisherman as well as a distinguished wood
carver and pastel artist.
Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Avis M. Turcotte of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Christine A. Ramondetta of Wethersfield, CT; a son, Jeffrey N. (wife-Carol) Turcotte of Bristol, NH; a grandson, Brian J. (fiancé-Steve Withers ) Ramondetta of Wethersfield.
A visitation will be held for family and friends will be held Saturday 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
July 10, 2010 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel.
