Geurt Cornelis Peet, Sr., 98, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully Monday, August 6, 2018, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte.

Geurt was born January 23, 1920 in Hilversum, Netherlands to the late Cornelis and Anna Peet. A retired furniture manufacturer, Geurt and his wife, Helena, moved from their longtime home in Suriname, South America to Port Charlotte in 1996.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helena Peet; sons, Tony Peet of Port Charlotte, Hans C. Peet of Port Charlotte, Geurt C. Peet, Jr. of Punta Gorda, FL, and Leo C. Peet of Miami, FL; a sister, Metje Hendrika; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, Geurt was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date by the family.

Far away but definitely not forgotten, thank you for what you and your sister have given me.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. When you see somebody live such a long and fulfilling life, you may wonder why man has to die at all. But be assured, God promises Us in the Bible at Revelation 21:4 that very soon he will do away with death and sickness from the Earth forever, and then he will resurrect Geurt to perfect life here on earth, surrounded by family and friends, which has always been God purpose for mankind and for the Earth.

I am so sorry for your loss. You are all in my thoughts and prayers, especially Geurt Jr. May the joyful memories of his life bring you peace.
