Grotel Tomlinson, 96, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully Monday, November 3, 2014 in Port Charlotte surrounded by her loving family.
She was born to her parents Alice Henry and Alexander Stephenson ,November 2, 1918 in Jamaica, West Indies and immigrated to Bronx, New York in September 12, 1980; then moved to Port Charlotte in August 23, 1989 and became a U.S. citizen, June 26, 2000. She was a faithful member of the North Port Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great- great grandmother and friend to many, who will be missed but not forgotten.
Survived by her family, three daughters, Icilma Barrett of Jamaica, Rachel (husband-Fitzgerald) Bennett of Port Charlotte, Udith (husband-Ira) Atkinson of Lehigh Acres; two sons, Cargil Tomlinson of Bronx, NY and Vernon Tomlinson of Jamaica; daughter in law, Daphne Tomlinson of Jamaica; 36 grandchildren 100 great grandchildren and 10 great -great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elkanah Tomlinson, daughter, Joyce Tomlinson, son, Roy Tomlinson, 2 deceased grandchildren and many brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Charlotte Chapel. Funeral services will be held Sunday 11:00 AM November 23, 2014 at the North Port Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pastor Ray West will officiate. A visitation will be held Sunday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. Committal services and interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte. The family will be having a repass following the cemetery service back at the church.
