Herbert was a Korean War veteran who served proudly for the U.S. Army. He was a retired stonesetter for many years. He was a past member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 2153 in Port Charlotte and New York and a member of the German American Club of Charlotte County. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Heidi Gilbert; 4 sons, Bob (Dorothy) Gilbert of Pennsylvania, Richard (Barbara) Gilbert of New York, Randy (Kitty) Gilbert of Alabama and Stephen Moeller of Florida; 6 grandchildren, Chris, Scott, Suiling, Meiling, Perry and Rachel and 1 great-grandchild, Ella.
