Ilona Haynie, of Port Charlotte, Florida, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Sarasota Hospital. She was 76 years old.
Ilona was born on June 28, 1949, in Coburg, Germany, to Rudolph and Hannelore Turner.
Ilona is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 47 years, Lanas Haynie of Port Charlotte; her daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Duane of Port Charlotte; and her cherished twin granddaughters, Johanna and Kaitlyn, who brought her immense joy. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Ray of Knoxville, Tennessee; her brothers, Charles Turner of Leicester, North Carolina, and Frank Turner of Nebraska; as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Stephen Turner.
Ilona will be remembered for her love of family, her strength, and her love of books. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and warmth.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ilona’s honor to Friends of the Englewood Charlotte Library, 3450 N. Access Road, Englewood, FL 34224.
