Isolin was born on January 2, 1936, in New River, Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, to Clinton and Miriam Bayliss as the second eldest daughter. As a child, Isolin loved to play, learn in school, dance, and jump rope. After learning to sew, she started working as a seamstress at 15, which later led to her doing some domestic work in Kingston. On May 10, 1960, she arrived in England and married Joseph Edwards on July 30, 1960. In England, she worked under a pressing factory in Stepney Green, Whitechapel, and in clothing manufacturing in Leytonstone. She also worked in housekeeping at Leytonstone Hospital on High Road Leyton. Her childhood in Jamaica and young adult life in England helped shape her into the self-reliant, resourceful, compassionate, and faithful woman that many came to know and admire. Isolin and her family moved to the United States on July 4th, 1981, where she continued her housekeeping career at Overlook Manor and became the first female security guard at Norwalk Hospital. She retired from Norwalk Hospital, moved to Port Charlotte, FL, in 2002 with her beloved husband, and they became co-adventurers traveling the world together. Isolin was dedicated to being an attentive grandmother to her grandchildren—Maya, Amanda, Justin, Selena, Alexa, and Lia. She would have loved to do the same for her great-grandson, James Jr. Isolin rang the bell for the Salvation Army and attended Family Church PC and the H2U Senior Cultural and Social Center. Her favorite song was “Jesus Loves Me,” and her favorite scripture was Psalm 28:7.
She is survived by her loving family—husband Joseph; children Joan, Lesa, Chris, and daughter-in-law Lisa; sisters Sylvia, Carmen, Vivienne, and Evadne; grandchildren Maya, Amanda, Justin, Selena, Alexa, and Lia; and great-grandson James Jr.
