James Duane West, 92, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at home.
James was born August 5, 1928 in Madison, Florida to the late Harold Edgar and Edith M. (Pommells) West.  He was a retired District Manager for Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Co.   James and his wife Joan moved to Port Charlotte from Miami, Florida in 1987.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the occupation of Japan.  James enjoyed fishing, camping, flying with his sons, and building just about everything, but most of all James loved being a great father and grandfather.
Survived by his loving family, his wife of 70 years, Joan G. West of Port Charlotte, FL; two daughters, Lynda W. Ledlow of Vero Beach, FL and Cheryl L. McKinney of Port Charlotte, FL; two sons, Robert M. West of North Port, FL and Clinton D. West of Sunrise FL;  13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel.  Entombment with military honors will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
