Jim was born to Frank and Alice Gohl on January 24, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York. Jim’s brothers and sisters were Lynn, Tommy, Ronnie, Kathy, and Robert. In 1962, Jim met the love of his life, Patricia (Pat, Pooky). Their union was sealed in marriage on July 29, 1967. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Two weeks after marriage, Jim was deployed to Vietnam, serving in the United States Army. Jim was then stationed in Hawaii for 18 months, joined by Patricia. After Hawaii, Jim and Pat returned to Long Island; however, Hawaii always held a special place in Jim and Pat’s hearts, symbolizing treasured memories of their time together.
In 1973, Jim and Pat relocated to Center Moriches, New York, where they raised eight children – Gia, Jimmy, Julie, Jessica, David, Michael, Ronnie, and Jesse. Jim was not only a devoted husband and father but also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest source of joy.
In 1976, Jim was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, along with his wife Patricia. Jim served as an elder for over 35 years, dedicating himself to the spiritual well-being of the congregation. He also served as a Regular Pioneer for 18 years, passionately sharing his faith and providing comfort, hope, and encouragement to many through talks, personal Bible studies, and shepherding visits. Jim found great fulfillment in the ministry, particularly in his role on the Patient Visitation Group, where he offered much-needed comfort and encouragement to his spiritual brothers and sisters in hospitals.
Throughout his life, Jim had a deep passion for music and art. From his early days as a drummer for the esteemed Selden Cadets Drum Corps to his later performances with the renowned New York Skyliners Alumni, Jim’s rhythmic beats resonated with all who had the privilege to listen. Beyond his musical talents, Jim’s creativity flourished in his artwork, where each brushstroke told a story and evoked emotions that touched the hearts of his family and friends.
In addition to his artistic pursuits and spiritual endeavors, Jim was a dedicated provider for his family. He worked tirelessly for 30 years at the Suffolk County Water Authority and also owned a successful plumbing business. Jim’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his unwavering love, his contagious laughter, his deep faith, and his passion for life. Jim’s love for Jehovah and faith in the resurrection were strong. He is safe in Jehovah’s memory. We wait for the day when we welcome Jim back to continue creating memories forever.
