Born July 14, 1943 in Ute, Iowa, James, a former heavy equipment welder with the John Deere Company of Mt. Joy, Iowa, moved from the Davenport, Iowa area to the Lake Suzy area of DeSoto County in 1999. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, James was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Lois A. Surber; two children, son Bryan L. Surber of Arcadia and daughter Jody A. Miller of Punta Gorda; two grandchildren, grandson Steven L. Miller of Punta Gorda, and granddaughter Jamie Weller of Davenport, IA.
