James A. Whitehead, 79, of Punta Gorda, Florida died May 17, 2008 at
Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte.

He was born January 31, 1929 in Erie, Pennsylvania and moved to Punta Gorda in 1985 from Sherman, New York. He was a retired salesperson in the construction industry for many years. Veteran of WW II serving in the US Marine Corp. Member of American Legion Post #493 of Mayville, NY and Moose Lodge #118 of Westfield, NY and The Nation Rifle Association

Survived by his son, James G. Whitehead of St. Augustine, FL; a daughter
Sandra T. Heimmlien of Erie, PA; a sister, Mary Jane Urbanski of Erie;

Jim will be missed greatly! His raspy humor and sort fuse covered up his caring nature for those less fortunate than he. He had this loving nature about him that most of us humans could only get a glimpse of, but my dachshund Misty Blue and he were totally bonded during his stay with us. Especially during the Hurricane disaster and she never forgot. He could always be counted on to help in any way he was able and we feel honored and enriched to have known him. He will not be forgotten! I'm sure I have pictures of him at our many picnics and would share them with you, his family, if you so desire.
