Jan A. “Jay” Sanders, Jr., 55, of Port Charlotte, Florida died peacefully at home Thursday, June 18, 2026, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Jay was born March 23, 1971, in Fort Myers, Florida.  He was a lifelong resident of Southwest Florida and a proud Firefighter & Paramedic with Charlotte County Fire & EMS. His life was spent taking care of not only his loved ones but the entire community.  He lived life with an unbridled enthusiasm and joy, which was palpable to all.  He will always be remembered for his ability to make you laugh even at the most unexpected time and his unlimited kindness and generosity.   

Jay is survived by his loving family, his wife, Cheryl B. Sanders, Port Charlotte; mother, Linda Sanders, Port Charlotte; two daughters, Lauren Sanders, Blairsville, Georgia and Victoria Sanders, Venice; son, Josh Sanders (Tamara), Labelle; sister, Melissa Velvett (Nick), Port Charlotte; and brother, Jeffrey Sanders (Nancy), Sinclair, Wyoming; three grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  He is preceded by his father Jan Sanders Sr and son Ryan Sanders.

The funeral for Jay will be held Thursday at Noon, June 25, 2026, at the Charlotte County Events Center, 75 Taylor Street, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
