Jimmie Dale Hicks, 75, of Placida, Florida died Thursday September 24, 2020 at home.
Jimmie was born September 29, 1944 in Mountain Grove, Missouri and moved to South Haven, Michigan during elementary school. In the early 1970’s he moved to Bradenton, Florida where he owned and operated several businesses with Dwight Brenneman. In 1986, he moved to Placida, Florida and built his forever home on Palm Island. Jimmie was well known for building and remodeling homes on the island and in 2004 after his son’s passing, he continued Brett’s legacy by running Brett Hicks Golf carts while still remodeling and building on the island.
Jimmie leaves behind his beloved daughter, Debra Hicks Frieben (Michigan), two amazing grandchildren Hannah & Colin Frieben of Michigan, his best friend and business partner for over 65 years, Dwight (Betty) Brenneman of Florida and Chi Chi who never left his side.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, Noah & Georgia Hicks, brothers Bill Fleetwood & Ed Hicks Sr., his beloved son Brett Alan Hicks and his best furry friends Sandy and Solomon.
Jimmie was loved by all that got to know him. He will be missed by the islanders but most of all the many people he called family. From the Bill’s kids, Mike, Amy, Belinda, Kathy, Beth and Tommy to Ed’s children, Chris, Kathi and Ray to even ones that weren’t family but he loved deeply, Zach & Emili (Cooper) Spangler and Tyler Cooper.

I just found out of Jims passing and this makes me very sad. he was always very kind and considerate to myself and the friends that I go on vacation with every year to Don Pedro island. we always rented a golf cart from him and chi chi. I enjoyed the conversations with him. He always made me feel at ease with him and like I had know him for years I wish I had meet him earlier in life so I would have even more fond memories of him. RIP Jim and I know chi chi misses you too.

So sad to learn of Jimmie's passing. So many great conversations over the years when visiting Palm Island. Will be making my first trip back after several years, the island won't be the same without him!

So sorry to hear of the passing of Jimmie. He was Palm Island. Had many great conversations with him when we were on the island (unfortunately, it has been too long since we have been there). He has been on my mind these past months (we last spoke in or around June/July; thankful for that); I only discovered he had passed away last night. So many stories, some involving Kimber and Solomon. I am sure they are all together now. Heaven's gain is our loss. RIH dear Jimmie Hicks.

I will miss my friend deeply. He was a great man.

The island most definitely will not be the same with Jimmy. Although my time on the island has been less and less over the years, I always made it a point to stop and say hello to him, and of course his pups. Can’t forget the many years he and Solomon came and visited at the house. So very glad I was able to see him early this year when I was down there. He most certainly won’t be forgotten.

Jimmie will be missed by many...he left us too soon. There was nothing that he wouldn't do to help his friends and family though out the years. Rest in Peace Jimmie as we cherish your memories, always....you were one of a kind, a good natured, faithful friend. Our Condolences to all his friends and family that grieve.

Uncle Jim was loved by all that knew him. He is going to be missed.
