John M. (Jack) Dunn, 78, of Port Charlotte, Florida, died Saturday evening, October 25, 2008, at his Port Charlotte residence.
Born John M. Dunn on July 25, 1930 in Hartford, Connecticut to the late William H. and Rena A. (nee-Coburn) Dunn, John, a loving and beloved husband, father and grandfather, moved to Port Charlotte from Danbury, Connecticut in 1994. A retired grocer, John began in business with his brother William when they took over their family’s tobacco business and renamed it Dunn Brother’s Tobacco Company. He eventually left the family business and worked for the former Grand Union Corporation. John returned to a family run business opening Dunn’s Store, with his wife Suzanne, a family grocery store, in Danbury, CT., before beginning a 14 year career with Gristede Brother’s Corporation, retiring as their manager. He was a former member of Danbury’s St. Gregory the Great RC Church, St. Gregory’s choir, St. Gregory’s Players, and the Danbury Republican Club; he was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, St. Maximilian Parrish Council, St. Maximilian choir, St. Maximilian’s Emmaus, and member 3rd degree and past Treasurer Knights of Columbus Council 11483.
Survivors include his loving wife, Suzanne M. Dunn; three children, daughters Victoria L. (husband – Christopher) White of Aiken, SC, and Cynthia A. (husband – Patrick) Cannon of Wolcott, CT, and son Brian t. (wife – Kyla) Dunn of Cary, NC; two grandchildren, granddaughter Elizabeth Cusack, and grandson Patrick Cannon, Jr., both of Wolcott, CT; one brother, William C. Dunn of Manchester, CT; one brother-in-law, Franklin J. Hirt of Danbury, CT, two sister-in-laws, Maryrose C. Dillon of Bethel, CT, and Roberta T. Boffelli of Havelock, NC, and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
