John “Jack” Martin Reeder, 88, of North Port Florida, passed away on August 16, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends at his memory care residence. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings and a grandson. Jack is survived by his wife Marsha, and their four children, Faith Gruntman (David), Sherryl Salzman (Don), Ruth Oczkowski, and Robert Reeder, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.
Jack was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 14, 1935. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 and served in Korea as a flight engineer on a B-26 bomber as a proud member of the 90th Bomb SQDN-LNI. Jack married Marsha in January 1954. Marsha and Jack recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Jack’s work ethic was one of his strongest qualities, mostly as a truck driver, which he was very proud of. He drove 29 years for Montgomery Wards, and then eleven additional years for Giant Food. He was also an exceptional handyman and loved working in the yard. Jack will always be remembered for his humor and infectious laugh.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Suncoast Baptist Church, 410 Warrington Blvd., Port Charlotte, Florida. A second service will take place on September 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Bethel Baptist Church, 4261 Bethel Overlook, Ellicott City, Maryland.
