He was born September 30, 1914 in Brooklyn, New York to James and Selena McCreery. In his youth, John was a nominee to try out for the 1933 Olympics as a gymnast. During World War II, he served proudly for the U.S. Navy in the Office of Naval Intelligence. He worked for Simkins Industries of New Haven, CT and became a plant manager in New Jersey, later retiring in 1982 when he and his since deceased wife, Margaret Graham McCreery moved to Florida. He loved music and dancing and attending the Fun with Music functions at the Cultural Center in Port Charlotte. He was a member of the Eckankar, The Religion of the Light and Sound of GOD.
John is survived by his current wife, Peg Stunkard; 2 daughters, Regina K. (George) Murphy of Sewell, NJ, Rosemary McCreery of Boothwyn, PA and 4 step-daughters, Margaret Beall of Pittsburgh, PA, Janice Stunkard of Arlington, VA, Christine Stunkard of Falls Church, VA and Mary Beth Sier of Broomfield, CO; a step-son, James Stunkard of Prompton, PA; 1 grandson, Dr. Frank Lauro and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Margaret and his son, John McCreery.
