John (“Jack”) Patrick Albertson, age 87, of Northport FL, formerly of Bridgeport, CT passed away
peacefully on October 3, 2017.
John was born in Bridgeport, CT. Jack graduated from Warren Harding High School, class of 1948, and New York University, class of 1952. An Army veteran, Jack served during the Korean Conflict in Japan from 1953-55 in the Counter Intelligence Corps. He worked for the State of CT, Division of Special Revenue as Assistant Unit Chief in charge of Field Operations. Immersed in the civic life of Bridgeport, Jack was a Park Board President deeply committed to the expansion of the Beardsley Zoo, a Fire Commissioner, an elected member of the Board of Education, and a leader in Bridgeport’s Republican Party. Jack was also devoted to his church serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus most recently at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Port Charlotte FL, and as a Eucharistic minister visiting the sick in their homes.
A beloved husband, he is survived by his wife, Joan (Gamble) Albertson, of 60 years; his children Kathleen DeSanti and her husband, Gregory, of Rockledge FL, Laurie Polizzo and her husband, Rory, of Bridgeport, Dr. Maureen Albertson of Punta Gorda FL, and Sean Albertson and his wife, Margaret, of Needham MA; Grandpa to Brendan, Meagan, and Ryan Albertson of Needham MA, and Pop Pop to Kayleigh and Breanna Albertson of Punta Gorda FL.
A Memorial service will be held in Connecticut on Friday, October 27, 2017. Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s name to the Connecticut Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, Conn. 06610-1649/ www.beardsley zoo.com
