John R. Stone entered into eternal peace with his Heavenly Father on December 12, 2015. John was born on May 26, 1952 in Hartford, Connecticut and was lovingly raised by his grandparents, the late John (Jack) Rome and Myra Rome. In his youth, he was a member of Beth Israel Congregation, Hartford, CT, where he became a Bar Mitzvah.
John was a graduate of New York Military Academy, Cornwall-on-the Hudson, NY and Carson Long Military Academy, New Bloomfield, PA. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman/Medic during Vietnam.
John lived in Manassas, Virginia before relocating permanently to South Florida. He worked for many years as a Project Manager for several construction companies and then as a Home Inspector for his own business, Trusted Inspection Services, LLC.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Terry (Borrowman) Stone; his son, Michael Thomas Stone; his daughter, Mallory Katherine Stone; his sisters Nancy Stone Smith and Joyce Stone; several cousins, nephews, nieces and beloved friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Bradford Jason (BJ) Stone.
John was a dedicated father and had a very giving spirit. He volunteered for many organizations over the years, including Make-A-Wish Foundation, Safe Harbor, Children’s Home Society, Boy Scouts of America, American Youth Soccer Organization, and various clubs and organizations at his children’s schools. In addition to helping out with organized groups, John offered a helping hand and opened up his heart to anyone in need – neighbors, friends, acquaintances who may be alone for holidays, the homeless, and his wonderful church family. He accepted Christ as his Savior and was a devoted member of St. Peters United Methodist Church for 25 years, where he served on numerous committees.
As a tribute to commemorate John’s service to our nation, a committal service and burial with military honors will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 2:30 PM.
In John’s honor, donations may be sent to the Children’s Home Society of Florida, 3333 Forest Hill Blvd, West Palm Beach, Florida 33406 or online at chsfl.org and selecting Palm Beach County to direct the donation.
Anchors Aweigh
Blue of the mighty deep, Gold of God’s great sun;
Let these our colors be, Till all of time be done;
On seven seas we learn, Navy’s stern call:
Faith, courage, service true, With honor over all.
