John T. Tegelman, 84, of North Port, Florida, and previously Massapequa, New York, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was born in 1939 to the late Richard and Edith Tegelman and was the younger brother of the late Richard Tegelman. John served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Army from 1957 until 1960 and was with the US Army Reserve until 1963. He also served in the New York City Police Department from 1962 to 1983 (25th and 106th Precincts) and retired as Sergeant, with his last command in the Manhattan Courts. John was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seaford, New York, and volunteered his time to manage the Church’s payroll and finances for over 20 years. John was most proud of his family. He was a loving father to the late Erika Tegelman, who passed away in 1991.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Ottilie Tegelman. John was a loving father to his surviving children, Pamela Tegelman Malabad (Thomas), and John Tegelman (Eileen), a loving and adored “Opa” to his grandchildren, Kallan, Arik, Luke, and Annika, and a loving brother-in-law and uncle.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at Roberson Funeral Home on 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, Florida, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11:00AM.
