JOHN A. ZELENY, 92, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at his residence.

He was born July 28, 1920 in Moodus, Connecticut and moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1937 to work for his Uncle’s moving company. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in Texas. John later worked as a hardware salesman and then returned to the moving industry, from which he retired. He moved to Port Charlotte from N. Royalton, Ohio in 1989. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) for over
65 years and was the Noble Grand and Past Grand of the IOOF Lodges in Glenwillow, OH and Punta Gorda, FL.

John is survived by his loving family, his wife of 65 years, Vicki (Kyr) Zeleny of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Kari (John ) Verhovnik of Broadview Heights, OH; a son, Cliff (Susie) Zeleny of Greenville, SC; a sister Albina Korcak of Middletown, CT; grandchildren, Julie & John Verhovnik, Lilly & Mandy Zeleny, Danny & Candice Briggs.

Memorial services will be held at later date by the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. John and I remember the pleasant dance times and partying together in Ohio. John was always busy helping everyone. He will be missed by so many. Now the healing begins for the bereaved. Love and prayers John and Dorothy

John's smiling face will be missed at the Czech & Slovak Club meetings and functions. We sincerely hope to see you back in the Fall.

I'm glad to have known John, a person who cherished his heritage. Both he and Vicki always made me feel so welcome at Czech/slovak functions. May he rest in peace.

We have very fond memories of Uncle John and will miss him very much.

We will miss John and remember him for his humor and wit. We enjoyed his company at gatherings and his pleasant demeanor. Also enjoyed seeing him often "across the water".

My mother, Jeanne Vidd, as well as myself would like to pass on our condolences to John's family. We both remember many enjoyable times at family get-togethers. He, obviously, will be missed.
