Joy Ellen Meyer, 77, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at her Port Charlotte residence.

Born on Sunday, June 2, 1946, in St. Peter, Minnesota to the late Russ and Dora Slack, Joy was a music teacher in the Lakeville Elementary Schools for 30+ years.  She enjoyed teaching children and most of all music.  Her fondest memories are of her family and friends, visiting them in Florida and Minnesota.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Jim Meyer, her children Kirsten Huber (Jeff) and Shawn Meyer (Kristina), 5 grandchildren Zachary Huber, and Malena, Brennan, Kinsley, and Graham Meyer, and one great-grandchild Xander Franks-Huber; and her brothers and sisters, Linda Knutson (Duane), David Slack, Kevin Slack (Idelle), Keith Slack and Patti Slack.  Joy was preceded in death by her father and mother Russ and Dora Slack, father and mother-in-law Paul and Polly Meyer, and sisters Debbie Lawrence and Sue Slack.

A Funeral Mass in Celebration of Joy’s Life will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church located at 1441 Spear Street in Port Charlotte, Florida.
