June D. Friend-Sjolander-Mather, 86, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at her Lexington Manor home in Port Charlotte.
June was born on November 10, 1923 in Dunbar, Pennsylvania to the late John L. and Carolyn (nee – Barnhart) Friend. She was a ninth generation with family historical roots in Sang Run, Maryland dating back to the 1600’s. June loved to spend time in the kitchen and later became a cook at Cal Bitners in Baltimore and lastly, for South Port Square in Port Charlotte until her retirement. She enjoyed being a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodges No. 2763 and 2153, The Loyal Order of Moose Family Center Lodge 2121 Women’s Auxiliary, and the American Legion Post 110, all of Port Charlotte.
June was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, who leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories. Survivors include a daughter, Regina (Carmen) Italia of Royersford, PA; a son, John G. (Debbie) Sjolander of Baltimore, MD; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; 3 step-children, 6 grand step-children, and 2 great step-grandchildren. June was preceded in death by her husband James J. Sjolander, her second husband, Arthur Mather, a son, James R. Sjolander, her twin brother John D. Friend, and a sister, Betty Friend Rush.
