Kathleen Marie Guy, 89, Born in Taunton, Massachusetts to the late Edna and George Grenier, died on June 5, 2023.
Kathleen graduated from Taunton High School as Valedictorian of her class. She then went to St Luke’s School of Nursing to become a registered nurse. Kathleen married Gilbert Allen Guy of Quincy, Massachusetts.
Kathy practiced nursing for many years as a staff nurse at Quincy City Hospital and was a private Duty Nurse at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston Massachusetts. Kathleen and her family moved to Lenox, Massachusetts where she was a staff nurse at Pittsfield General Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital and Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
While raising her family Kathy was very active in her community. She was elected to the Lenox School Board and was a volunteer at Hancock Shaker Village in Hancock, Massachusetts for many years. Kathy worked in the Village’s 1830 kitchen where authentic Shaker Food was prepared for visitors. Kathy also demonstrated basket weaving and worked in the Village’s extensive gardens. As an expert quilter she and her many Lenox friends formed a quilters group which met regularly for many years. The group participated in designing and making the annual Hancock Shaker Village quilt which was a major fund raiser for the Village. Kathy became interested in computers and attended courses at Berkshire Community College.
Kathleen was a dedicated member of the Audubon Society and went on many bird watching trips over the years. She became familiar with dozens of species as well as learning their calls. One of her favorite places was the Pleasant Valley Sanctuary in Lenox where she met with other “birders” and increased her knowledge through the sanctuary director, a well-known Ornithologist. Kathleen’s appreciation of the nature of birds was a lifelong hobby.
Kathy was a gourmet cook and baker known locally for her delicious pies. Kathy and her husband Gilbert were members of an Asian cooking group which met monthly at members homes for over 20 years. Among her many talents was her love of gardening and maintaining a large flower garden. Kathy was an avid reader of fiction and politics. Kathy made quilts for all her children and grandchildren using designs made on her computer. She also knitted and sewed all kinds of gifts. Kathleen was extremely talented and was able to study and learn just about anything.
Kathleen and Gilbert moved to Rotonda West, Florida after retirement and were married for 69 years. Kathy is survived by daughter Sharon Guy of Rotonda West, Florida, two sons: David Guy and his wife Gemma Galli of East Walpole, Massachusetts, Daniel Guy of Sharon, Massachusetts, grandsons Garrett Raucci of Norton Massachusetts and John Guy of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and great grandchildren: Elora and Asher.
